Maiden Media Sponsors the Sustainability Symposium

Maiden Media Sponsors the Sustainability Symposium

The week before last, Maiden was fortunate enough to attend and be a sponsor of the Sustainability Symposium at Rutgers University’s Camden Campus.  The law firm Flaster/Greenberg, which has a great green practice headed by Mitch Cohen, ran the symposium.  Other sponsors included: Brandywine Realty, National Energy Partners, Rutgers Camden and more.  The event was meant to provide a forum to talk about initiatives being run in the Greater Philadelphia area by businesses involved with renewable and sustainable energy.

Maiden Media was a sponsor because we helped create the event’s website along with other marketing materials.  The job was a joint effort shared with the great marketing team at Flaster/Greenberg.  We were able to make a site, social media designs, a social strategy and some print material to help promote the event.  This was the first event of its kind held by the firm and over 400 people registered to attend.

Presenters included Rayman Soloman (Dean of Rutgers School of Law-Camden), Lee Soloman (President of the NJ Board of Public Utilities) and Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula of the NJ State Legislature to name a few.  There were also great panels that discussed what is going on in the area, future government plans and new technologies in development.  It was a very informative event and a great way for people in the industry to connect, network and educate themselves more.

One of our favorite presentations was by Daniel Kidd of Bjarke Ingels Group, an architecture firm based in Denmark with offices throughout the world.  They create amazing concepts and buildings across the globe.  Their whole idea is “Hedonistic Sustainability.” While most architects and designers view sustainable design as a compromise, in that design and functionality are comprised to make something more sustainable, the folks at Bjarke Ingles Group have the view of “Hedonistic Sustainability” – They try to blend exciting design with sustainability to create projects that are beautiful, fun and unique while ensuring their sustainability.  Their work is absolutely amazing and blew our minds.  One awesome thing they did was take a power plant and turn it into a ski slope so there was both functionality and a way for residents to still enjoy the space that the power plant took up.  You need to check their stuff out at http://big.dk/ now!
